| A rough ashlar,
is a stone taken from a rock quarry, just as it is. It has a jagged
and uneven surface, and its edges are crooked and
not well defined. Much work will need to be done on it before the builder
can accepted it and fit it into a building.
Even though the rough
ashlar is imperfect, there is hidden somewhere within a perfect
stone, suitable for the builders use. We are like that rough
ashlar. Rude and imperfect by nature, but like that stone,
there is a usable part somewhere inside. With a just little work
from ourselves, some help from our friends and brothers, and with the
blessings of God, we may become as a "living stone," a more
usable member of society.
The Masonic Fraternity has
for many years helped its members to become more like a perfect ashlar.
Even though we start out rude and imperfect by nature, by following the
principles taught by our order, we help each other to become more like
"usable stones", suitable to take a useful part in the
building of society, working for the common good of all men.
If you are a man 18 years
or older, and would like to become a more useful member of society, and
part of the oldest and most ancient fraternal organization in the world,
contact a Masonic Friend. Ask him how you may become a
member. If you do not know a Mason, contact one of the men listed
on our Lodge Officers Page. If you do
not live in the Glen Elder, Cawker City, Downs, or Osborne area, click
on the Grand Lodge of Kansas seal below for help in finding a Masonic
Lodge near your home. |
